Beginning in the Summer of 2017 and to be held every three years, this ambitious event initiated by the National Gallery of Victoria will be a large-scale celebration of the best of contemporary international art and design. Exploring the global and inter-disciplinary nature of contemporary art practice, the NGV Triennial will present major figures in contemporary art, architecture and design, film and performance, highlighting the most dynamic and adventurous new shifts and cultural contexts in contemporary art and design practice today.

The National Gallery of Victoria has announced the acquisition of one of the world’s most sought-after fashion collections.
It includes the most significant French haute couture ever to be acquired by an Australian museum, with works by Christian Dior, Coco Chanel, Madeleine Vionnet and Jeanne Lanvin, and an outstanding fashion research archive including rare workbooks and photography by Yves Saint Laurent and Madame Gres.
Ai Weiwei has opened the exhibition “Andy Warhol | Ai Weiwei” at the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) after Chinese authorities returned his passport earlier this year, enabling him to travel overseas for the first time since 2011 when he was detained in Beijing and had his passport confiscated.
