High-end label Gucci have just debuted their pre-fall 2017 campaign and to say that the melanin is flourishing in their campaign images would be an understatement. Titled ‘Soul Scene’, the campaign celebrates black culture (casting only black models) and draws influence from black youth in the 60s including England’s Northern Soul movement. Sleater-Kinney’s Carrie Brownstein has directed a new short film, The Realest Real, for KENZO’s fall-winter campaign. It premiered during KENZO’s New York Fashion Week show, and basically parodies the social media era with references to “followers,” “the cloud,” and the buzzword of endearment “mom” are all manifested as “really real” physical realities, via a shady establishment called the Institute of the Real.
