The 2020 BET Hip Hop Awards aired last night and gathered some of the best and freshest rappers for four cyphers — but which one beat out the rest?
Brandy, Erykah Badu, H.E.R. and Teyana Taylor made up the First Lady Cypher, rapping about Black womanhood and empowerment over Brandy‘s 1994 smash I Wanna Be Down.
Erykah took to the turntables and also spat a verse but the stand-out for us was H.E.R who offered up a humble brag that she is the first Black woman to have her own festival.
At the same time, the singer touched on the police slaying of Breonna Taylor: “Say a prayer / Breonna Taylor seemed intentional / Black queens with dreams / Beautiful, exceptional / Say you wanna be down, but still ain’t arrest them, though.”
Fans raved that the all-female cypher was one of the best of the show! Watch it above.
