The Only Cypher To Watch From This Year’s BET Awards

The 2020 BET Hip Hop Awards aired last night and gathered some of the best and freshest rappers for four cyphers — but which one beat out the rest?

BrandyErykah BaduH.E.R. and Teyana Taylor made up the First Lady Cypher, rapping about Black womanhood and empowerment over Brandy‘s 1994 smash I Wanna Be Down.

Erykah took to the turntables and also spat a verse but the stand-out for us was H.E.R who offered up a humble brag that she is the first Black woman to have her own festival.

At the same time, the singer touched on the police slaying of Breonna Taylor: “Say a prayer / Breonna Taylor seemed intentional / Black queens with dreams / Beautiful, exceptional / Say you wanna be down, but still ain’t arrest them, though.”

Fans raved that the all-female cypher was one of the best of the show! Watch it above.
