While she’s released a handful of songs in the past decade, it’s been 14 years since Missy Elliott has released a new album.
This week, Missy Elliott surprised fans with a new 5-track mixtape, “Iconology”.Produced by Elliott, Timbaland and Wili Hendrix, it is the long-awaited follow-up to her 2005 sixth studio album, “The Cookbook”.
The visuals for the lead single, ‘Throw It Back,’ which features a Teyana Taylor cameo, shows Elliott‘s unwavering authenticity. She’s celebrating blackness with details like having cheerleaders wave dyed Afros as pom poms and using braids as jump ropes in the spectacular double dutch sequence.
Elliott rolls out her own red pink carpet, plants her own flag on the moon and stands firmly in the vibrant and colorful world she’s created and lived in for decades.
