Talk about Nostalgia!
Ariana Grande‘s ‘Thank U, Next’ has been everyone’s moving on “anthem” of 2018 including myself!
A pop star as famous and larger than life as Ariana is so well-packaged and produced, it feels like this song is a deeply humanising peek behind the curtain of her brand into her soul and it’s a refreshing dose of self-love, gratitude, and peace/acceptance that passes all human understanding.
This delightfully simple little breakup song about the loss of her ex Mac Miller and recent split from fiancée Pete Davidson has a sweet and subtle groove that’s bright and metallic like the sound of a steel drum; her vocals are both raw and resigned to the musical methodology of processing her emotions.
The visuals are a throwback to every rom-com we’ve ever loved if you’re Generation X/Older Millennial (i.e me!) drawing inspiration from four classic teen movies – Bring It On, Mean Girls, 13 Going On 30 and Legally Blonde – and even features some stars from those films, with Mean Girls’ Jonathan Bennett and Legally Blonde‘s Jennifer Coolidge reprising their roles from the video.
It is also stacked with other celebrity cameos, including Troye Sivan, Colleen Ballinger, Matt Bennett, Liz Gillies, Stefanie Drummond and, most notably, ‘cool mum’ Kris Jenner.
