Leo & Lin’s Resort ’19 Collection Was Reminiscent of a Disney Fairytale

Emerging Australian fashion label LEO & LIN created a multi-sensory experience at their solo debut runway at Australian Fashion Week this year with the addition of a bespoke aroma wafting throughout the iconic Carriageworks catwalk as soon as you walked into the venue. Add in Andy Williams' classic 'Moon River' with fairytale gowns and colours, and what do you have? Click through to find out. All photography captured by Khiera Nicole.

But the question is, are you a fan of fairytales?
Perhaps as a child, but not so much as an adult right?

As a young child, your parents/teachers probably would have shared with you the stories and fairytales of Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, etc but as we grew up, we left those stories behind, right?

That didn’t seem to be the case with Leo & Lin‘s runway show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia this year.

Their Resort 2019 collection, ‘Ms Moonlight,’ took the inspiration of those fairytales and injected perhaps a little too much of it into their collection.

Walking into the Leo & Lin show was like stepping into a bedtime storybook. The scene was lit in a purple hue with stars and moons shining upon the ground and walls, but like the stories that were made for bedtime, the designs of the label’s collection also made us want to go to bed.

The princess style dresses and colours were anything but magical. In our opinion, they fell kinda flat and as a result, lead to a showcase of some underwhelming and unimaginative designs. In a word, it was boring.

A colour palette of pale pink, champagne, and that sparkly, somewhat dusty Cinderella blue, was mixed with a galaxy-esque print of moons and stars (Yes, really.) on dresses and gowns with high neck and sweetheart necklines. Meh.

Adding to all that, the models walked down the runway to the old-soul song of ‘Moon River’ – the Andy Williams’ version, not the Frank Ocean one. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind the song; I just would have chosen something else for a fashion runway show.

If you couldn’t tell, we were just not fans of the Leo & Lin show, and we even thought about pulling this post altogether, but here we are.

What do you think? Are we being too harsh?
