This November, monthly music series Red Bull Sound Select will embark on a widespread tour across the country to celebrate the end of UNI for 2017.
Visiting Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra, Perth and Adelaide, each event will host an incredible calibre of talent, handpicked by an exciting array of curators to help students celebrate the end of exams and start of summer.
Kicking off in Melbourne, music and arts festival Copresents will play host to Red Bull Sound Select at their one-day, inner city festival; with a dedicated stage for the program to showcase their talent alongside other local acts. Taking place at RMIT University, the student-run event will host a dynamic line-up of progressive Melbourne favourites led by much-loved hip-hop duo REMI, alongside the divergent sounds of MANU CROOK$, melancholic, jazz-pop duo Slum Sociable, 80s synth masters GL, indie-pop songstress Gabriella Cohen and prestigious electronic producer Willaris K (to name a few).
The series will then head to Brisbane on Thursday November 16, where Bridees’ Rooftop will host a chaotic, head-banging line-up curated by Ratbag Records signees and Australian festival royalty, Dune Rats. Bringing huge walls of fuzz and distortion to the streets of Brisbane, Rockhampton’s guitar crunchers Pandamic, lo-fi punk group White Blanks, garage thrashers Voiid and east coast-rock quartet Concrete Surfers are all set to perform.
The very next day, Red Bull Sound Select will head south to Australia’s capital, as iconic Canberra venue UC Refectory sees MANU CROOK$ lead an all-star line up showcasing the brightest forefront of Australia’s hip-hop community. Canberra native Turquoise Prince will appear with elusive and all-female crew Haiku Hands – all curated by Sydney’s Inner West party squad, One Day.
The following Sunday, the program will head cross-country for a sunset Sunday session curated by infamous Perth party crew, BLOCK PARTY. Students can truly celebrate their uni break as techno connoisseur dylan iS headlines the electronic fiesta with disco masters Father Figures and Perth’s own genre-defying, signature selector Jeremy Smith on support duties. Taking place at the gravitating Perth venue The Resident, it’s set to be the ultimate Sunday party.
The Red Bull Sound Select uni tour will wrap in Adelaide with local industry pioneers, Five Four Entertainment exhibiting their mighty hand-picked selections at West Oak Hotel on Thursday, November 30. Warming up the stage will see house minimalist Alfonso Frawls set the tone, followed by LL Cool Dre to bring his signature disco expertise to the night. Later, Adelaidians can prepare as one of Australia’s more innovative electronic acts, Cosmo’s Midnight close out the month-long festivities.
