Is This What The Future Will Look Like?

The Guardian and Moth Collective collaborated together to give us a brief but grounded glimpse into what our future may look like when all nearly every occupation has been optimized out of the equation and toiling away for a living turns into doing nothing all the time. This is not what we usually write about but we found it very interesting and worthy of a share!

This video/short film has actually been on the interwebs for a while now but we’ve only just discovered it and we were both curious and intrigued after watching it.

According to some experts, machines are well on track on take up to 50% of our jobs within the next 30 years, so The Guardian collaborated with Moth Collective to create a short animation imagining what our future might be like.

Entitled “The Last Job on Earth”, it follows a young woman called Alice, the holder of the last recognisable job on Earth, as she wakes up in a futuristic city. After reading the news on her bathroom mirror while brushing her teeth, she heads to the medical centre for a medical check before heading to work in a self-driving pod. Unfortunately, once she arrives she’s in for a bit of a shock.

If what they illustrated is correct, we are looking forward to what the future will bring!
