Björk has shared a music video for ‘The Gate’, the first track from her forthcoming ninth studio album “Utopia”.
The incredible visual was released in collaboration with Nowness at a special installation during London Fashion Week, but it’s now available to watch on YouTube.
Directed by long-time Björk collaborator Andrew Thomas Huang with creative direction from Björk, Alessandro Michele and James Merry, the video is utterly mesmerising, with the Icelandic star dancing and manipulating an enticing light orb together with various angel-like beings.
The stunning gown was custom made by Gucci for the video. It designed by Alessandro Michele and took 550 hours to make with an additional 320 hours for embroidery.
“The Gate is essentially a love song, but I say ‘love’ in a more transcendent way. Vulnicura was about a very personal loss, and I think this new album is about a love that’s even greater. It’s about rediscovering love—but in a spiritual way, for lack of a better word.” –
