This week, Nike unveiled a powerful new ad showing what girls are truly made of.
Created by Wieden+Kennedy Amsterdam, the spot puts a twist on a traditional Russian children’s song, which a young girl is singing on stage at a theatre.
Initially, the lyrics tell us that girls are made of gossip, flowers, and marmalade but, after seeing some sporting inspirations break into the crowd, the girl starts singing about determination, independence, skill, toughness and strength.
The Nike spot ends with the young girl holding a football, calming herself before taking a penalty.
Made of bruises; And of punches. Made of bravery; And of clenched fists. Made of independence; And of skills; Of passion and heart; And of dignity. Made of will; That’s harder than flint. Made of strength; And of fire. Made of freedom; From other people’s opinions. Made of accomplishments; And of achievements. This is what our girls are made of.
