Ngaiire is a force to be reckoned with.
As she walks onto the stage and sings the first note, she commands the room with the prowess of a seasoned superstar. She played at the Corner Hotel on Friday night to a welcoming and dancing crowd. The “Inside Blastoma” tour celebrates the release of her sophomore album, “Blastoma”.
Ngaiire performed a flawless set of her unique blend of alternative pop and R&B. She brought Jack Grace on stage to perform their song, ‘Cruel’, and going into ‘Once’, she genuinely thanked the crowd for making the song so popular and well-received. She also performed fan favourites, ‘Anchor’ and ‘House On A Rock’. When you watch Ngaiire perform live, you can really see the passion she has for what she does. And hearing the vocal powerhouse sing right in front of you, you can’t help but have a great time.
Ngaiire brought with her Melbourne’s own Woodes, who performed a hauntingly beautiful set of electronic tunes. Performing with a live band for the first time, she was excited not to be on the stage alone. Her light and airy voice was wonderfully balanced with full, melodic electronic beats. Woodes is an artist to keep an eye on.
Opening up the night was future soul darling, Wallace. Ngaiire and Wallace released a YouTube video of their cover of Solange’s ‘Rise’ about a week before the show, and you can see the admiration that both artists have for each other. Sydney-based Wallace has a unique voice that sounds even more amazing live. Her most recent single, ‘Raffled Roses’, will get you hooked. Wallace is one of the most exciting up-and-comers on the scene.
The trio of gifted women will take the tour to Sydney and Brisbane next. Be sure not to miss out!
