Melbourne’s Cookin’ On 3 Burners is known as one of the city’s finest soul bands. The homegrown trio, made up of guitarist Jake Mason, guitarist Dan West, and drummer Ivan Khatchoyan, have worked with the likes of Tex Perkins, The Wolfgramm Sisters, and more.
But they recently nabbed a rather surprising accolade for a Melbourne band on the grind when they knocked off Drake in the UK Dance charts with ‘The Girl’ Kungs vs Cookin’ on 3 Burners remix which you can listen to above.
The Melbourne three-piece are one of few acts breathing soul back into Australia’s music scene, and they’re heading up north to Sydney for a “one night only” show at Newtown Social Club this week – 22nd of July – featuring Delta blues, and local support from jazz and hip hop duo Yum Yum and DJ Huwston.
“Joining the dots between deep funk, raw soul, dirty organ jazz and boogaloo, Cookin’ On 3 Burners are always on point, whether playing alongside a sweet soul vocalist or busting out tasty instrumental breakbeats. Joining the band onstage fresh from a slew of killer shows around Australia will be smokin’ soulstress, Miss Stella Angelico.”
