KARLA ŠPETIĆ‘s runway collection for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia this year was created from her recollections as a young child growing up in Dubrovnik.
Where? I asked myself the same question when I found out. Dubrovnik is a Croatian city on the Adriatic Sea, in the region of Dalmatia.
It was in Dubrovnik that KARLA ŠPETIĆ remembered through smell, touch and sound, “the feel of pebbles underfoot, the wafting aroma of lavender (gathered in pouches to scent folded clothes), the rhythmic chirp of male crickets at night.”
“ŠPETIĆ’s resort collection, “Memories”, is a love letter to Dubrovnik, a symphony of summer holiday shades: crisp whites and deep, inky blues on silk faille and silk gorgette.”
ŠPETIĆ‘s love letter was indeed reflected in her collection and told the audience a story through her curation of feminine silhouettes and all things lavender and lace: think scalloped edges, sheer panels, and structured frills and slits.
It was sexy but feminine.
Here’s our pick of the top 10 best looks from KARLA ŠPETIĆ‘s Resort Collection, “Memories”.
