Kelela's 'Rewind' is a dark, slow-burning R&B jam, but on a new remix from GoldLink, it's reimagined as a high-energy garage record. As well as switching up the instrumental, GoldLink also adds a verse to the record, and naturally, he fits right into the mix. Check it out for yourself.

With Laneway Festival on our horizon next weekend, we’ve been digging through music blogs listening and accompanying ourselves with the music of the artists on the bill.

One such artist I’m particularly looking forward to seeing perform live again is GoldLink; the first time was when he was the support act for Kaytranada in oven-hot conditions of the Oxford Art Factory.

The remix premiered on Annie Mac’s BBC Radio 1 show this week, and the rework is a clear departure with fast-paced percussion replacing the original’s spaced out, lo-fi production.

“It’s everything that I wanted,” Kelela told Annie of her approval on the track. “He’s so smart. The remix is so smart. It’s one of the smartest ones that I’ve heard in a long time. And it’s such a beautiful nod to the old school remix, which was a true rework, where you know all the parts but feel like they’re being placed in a different context… Also, his nod back to garage. It’s almost like he was speaking directly to me.”

Nicely said. Listen to the “smart” remix above.

Oh, The 5 to 9 Life team will also be reviewing GoldLink‘s sold-out Sydney show next month so keep your eyes peeled for that. We can’t wait.
