Ta-ku and Wafia Surprises Us With ‘American Girl’

Two of our favourite artists, Ta-ku and Wafia, have come together to record and effortlessly recreate an Estelle favourite from 2008, with their new release, 'American Girl'. Is it better than the original? You tell us.

The homie Ta-ku has been showing off his chops lately through various recordings and he’s done it again via his latest single, featuring our girl, Wafia.

The two homegrown acts decided to collaborate together on what can be described as a cover/response to Estelle’s 2008 R&B classic ‘American Boy’ featuring Kanye West, entitled ‘American Girl’.

“American Girl started as a joke when I was watching old Kobe Bryant highlights and Estelle’s ‘American Boy’ was the soundtrack. I really wanted to make a stripped back #emotional version that would play on its really great melodic structure. I reached out to my lovely friend Wafia to sing a duet with me & mustered enough courage to jump on the first verse. I’m very proud of this song. I hope you enjoy it.” [sic] – Ta-ku

In true Ta-ku fashion, the two have transformed the catchy hit into an #emotional duet.

#allthefeels on this one. Hit play.
