Obey Your Thirst with Vince Staples

Vince Staples is the subject of episode 3 in Sprite's "Obey Your Thirst" documentary series. A rising talent in the hip hop world, Staples recently dropped his debut album, 'Summertime 06', so it's rather fitting for this piece to drop around about the same time. Get to know the young artist recently featured on the 2015 XXL Freshman List.

FADER TV and Sprite have dropped off episode 3 of their “Obey Your Thirst” series featuring Long Beach rapper Vince Staples.

I’ve been a fan of Vince Staples for a minute; first discovering him through his freestyles rather than his own tune or a feature on someone else’s. If someone who freestyles can capture your attention and keep it to the end of the piece, you know you’re dealing with someone pretty special.

The two-minute mini-doc (above) follows Staples through his Long Beach neighborhood, as he speaks on the importance of having a voice, and representing the place you came from, with some wise words to share:

“It’s important to have a voice; speaking from where I come from because I never had one. Without that voice, all of this is for nothing.”

“Stay true to yourself. That’s the natural thing to do. I think it’s hard to do anything otherwise. Everybody’s got a purpose. You just gotta find yours and go for it.”
