M.I.A. x Gener8ion: The New International Sound Pt. II

We’ve been patiently awaiting M.I.A.’s return after her stunning 2013 LP 'Matangi', and today the Sri Lankan goddess provided us a glimpse of something fresh (About time!). A collaboration with french producer GENER8ION and director Inigo Westmeier, the visuals for 'The International Sound (Pt.II)' stars 36,000 students from Shaolin Tagou, the world’s largest fighting school, which as you watch will capture your attention almost immediately.

The follow-up to M.I.A.‘s 2013 album “Matangi” is almost upon us – thank goodness!

She’s been slowly releasing new material, and today, a new video dropped for a song with French producer GENER8ION, called ‘The New International Sound (Part II)’.

M.I.A. doesn’t make an appearance in the three-and-a-half-minute visual, but her influence is felt throughout. Instead, director Inigo Westmeier documents 36,000 Tagou Martial Arts students in their element. Tagou is the largest children’s fighting school in China, and it’s on full display here.

The choreographed training sessions are a visual feast and a poignant complement to the rapper’s lyrics like, “You can kill my privacy, but you can’t kill that love in me.”

Visually, it’s absolutely stunning.

It’s more hypnotic than anything else really. To be honest, I don’t know if I’m feeling the song as much as I’m feeling the visuals. Couldn’t keep my eyes off the screen as I watched.

What do you think?
