I’m pretty chuffed to be able to call this guy my friend as well as being one of my favourite artists: Chris Yee.
And this week, he’ll be heading up his third solo show – “Mad Love” – as part of The Japan Foundation Gallery’s Contemporary Art Mini Series.
“Enter the world of Chris Yee’s ‘Mad Love’ where he explores the intersection of Sydney suburban youth and Japanese pop culture influences. Growing up saturated by mass media, Yee depicts characters with a playful and obsessive outlook of heroes, idols and friendships as dictated by the outside world. Drawn in calligraphy ink and inspired by manga, the illustrations feature Yee’s signature line-work and a minimalist colour palette.”
“I want to bridge the gab between the experiences of Sydney suburban youth and growing up with global influences.” – Chris Yee“
