Directed by Sia and Daniel Askill, ‘Big Girls Cry’ is taken from the Australian singer/songwriter’s sixth studio album, “1000 Forms of Fear”.
The video sees the return of bewigged dancer Maddie Ziegler, who puts in a more intimate yet equally tormented performance as Sia’s alter ego.
The video features Ziegler in her trademark flesh-coloured leotard and blonde Sia bob facing a camera and contorting her face to express a slew of emotions. At one point, a pair of hands come into the frame, possibly Sia’s, and begin to manipulate Ziegler’s face.
The song itself is very emotional and is easily one of the most personal from “1000 Forms of Fear”, but it is also very relatable and brings about a sense of vulnerability.
Unlike Fergie who told us that ‘Big Girls Don’t Cry‘, Sia isn’t afraid to be real and tell it like it is – yes, us big girls DO cry from time to time:
I may cry, ruining my makeup
Wash away all the things you’ve taken
I don’t care if I don’t look pretty
Big girls cry when their hearts are breaking
Big girls cry when their hearts are breaking
Big girls cry when their heart is breaking
