Noah Slee: Waterfalls

New Zealand native Noah Slee combines traditional soul influences whilst experimenting with electronic production blending an array of genres ranging from future beats, contemporary soul, to indie-electronica. Check out his throwback to the 90s with a cover of TLC's 'Waterfalls'.

Cover songs can be difficult to write about sometimes.

It’s obvious that I’m a fan of them and have definitely written about many before but it takes a particular artist to really capture my attention. I’m not one to trawl through YouTube for hours and hours to see “bedroom artists” covering their favourite songs. There have to be more elements than that for me to really pay attention.

Berlin-based artist Noah Slee has given us his take on TLC’s ‘Waterfalls’.

I’ll admit, it took a couple of listens for me to let go of the original and throw myself into the production and sound of Slee’s version. But sometimes it takes a few listens to a song to notice a spark or a different notion that makes you sit up and really pay attention.

That was definitely the case for me with ‘Waterfalls’. I think it was that off-beat snare that got me. But his version definitely brings about some more chilled-out vibes than the original, and it had me looking up the rest of his releases via his Soundcloud page – which I highly recommend checking out.

If you like what you hear, then you’ll be happy to hear that Noah Slee is in Australia at the moment playing a run of shows around the country – making his debut in Sydney next weekend – as well as a handful of performances in New Zealand.

Noah Slee - Sydney Show

“Expect Slee’s contemporary soul, prog RnB, future beats style and a mix of indie electronica, which will be perfectly complemented by the dulcet dubsoul sounds of support act Duan & Only. The show will see Noah Slee promoting his soon to be released debut album after spending time abroad in Berlin, Germany where he is now permanently based.”
