For every brand, there is a story.
The Missoni story goes back over 60 years ago in the foothills of the Alps in north-west Italy. It came to life in the garage of track and field Olympian Ottavio Missoni and his wife, Rosita. They started a knitwear shop shortly after getting hitched and as they say, the rest is history. From there, the powerhouse duo created a fashion empire on its signature zigzag, kaleidoscope stripe and floral patterns.
Fast forward to 2014 and Missoni is not only a fashion icon, it is also a family affair with three generations shaping the brand today. And without a doubt, this was a clear sight at the Missoni for Target launch at the picturesque Bondi Icebergs Dining Room in Sydney.
The Missoni family, which includes matriarch Rosita, daughter and creative director Angela, as well as grandchildren Teresa, Giacomo and Francesco, travelled over 14,000km from Italy
to the Trans-Tasman to unveil its new collection for Target Australia. All heralding the Missoni signature prints, the collaboration brings a 200 piece collection of clothing, accessories and home products to Australian shoppers.
Bondi Icebergs was decked out in monochrome zig zag printed cushions and rugs. Italian
inspired cocktails (Campari, of course) were served in clear cut wine glasses. Even the waitstaff
strutted a touch of Missoni with their colourful striped aprons. To get a glimpse of it all, a live projection of Missoni prints were projected on Icebergs’ pool while live music by Asta played in the background.
Guests at the sunset soirée included Terry Biviano, Magalena Roze, Samantha Harris, Kylie
Gillies and new Australian E! host Ksenija Lukich.
Interviewed by the gorgeous MC Sally Obermeder on stage, Angela Missoni proudly said that after 14
months in the making, the collection is “perfect for Australia, perfect for Target”.
This is proving to be right after Target’s website crashes after the collection launched online on Wednesday last week. There is definitely demand, let’s see how long it lasts!
