Louis Baker: Heavy Stone

New Zealand, singer/songwriter Louis Baker reflects on a year that saw him attend the Red Bull Music Academy in New York and record his album in London by releasing a new track, 'Heavy Stone', with delicate guitar work accompanied with his sensitive, reflectively soulful voice.

Louis Baker - Heavy Stone

“‘Heavy Stone’ represents the transition point between win and lose. Where a person, experiencing terrible despair, becomes awakened to the idea that despite the despondency that they feel, there is still hope. Not just for themselves, but for all humanity.”Louis Baker.

The single showcases Louis’ voice front and centre with just his guitar and simple strings to adorn it. I could listen to his voice all day. It’s so damn beautiful.

But personally, this song tugged at more than a few heartstrings and hit a bit (too) close to home for me.

‘I don’t want to be weighed down anymore. Relax. Let go.’

With an insightful eye for lyrical detail, a rich vocal tone that reminisces back to the classic Motown-era of soul and an expressive guitar style, Wellington-based singer / songwriter Louis Baker is definitely an artist to watch.

Baker still has a few live shows to perform in his home country of New Zealand before the year is over. If you like what you hear, I suggest you look up where he’s playing and grab a ticket. I, on the other hand, will be here in Melbourne sitting at my laptop feeling all sorts of jealousy and envy!

‘Heavy Stone’ is the second single from Louis Baker’s debut EP (of the same name) due out early 2014. Not too long to go!
