The Weeknd: Lorde – Royals (Remix)

16-year-old New Zealand singer Ella Yelich-O’Connor, a.k.a. Lorde, is already the talk of the Internet, but last night she received a massive cosign from her Republic Records label mate Abel Tesfaye, a.k.a. The Weeknd. Check out his remix of her hit single, 'Royals'.

The Weeknd - Lorde - Royals (Remix)

Lorde made headlines last week when she was announced as the first female solo artist in 17 years to top the Billboard Alternative Songs Chart. Not a bad feat for someone who is only 16 years old!

I love everything about Lorde.

The young singer was widely acknowledged as the highlight of this year’s Splendour in the Grass festival after she was called in to replace Frank Ocean at the 11th hour. I’m still pretty heartbroken over the piece of news that Frank cancelled to be honest.

But last night, a new remix of the NZ songstress’ hit tune, ‘Royals’, was sent to the world wide web by none other than Toronto’s The Weeknd.

The Canadian RnB singer doesn’t change up too much of the original (which I’m quite pleased about); but he does sprinkle in some light vocal ad-libs and slightly touches up the beat, giving it an XO vibe. Add in some extra drums, pounding and echoing synths and this is actually a pretty great remix.

On another good note for us Australians, Lorde is busy preparing for her debut album “Pure Heroine” which is due for release on September 30th, and has just announced a nationwide tour kicking off in October! Head to her official Facebook page for further details. This will no doubt sell out!
