Skillshare, for those of you who don’t know, is a global community where you can learn real-world skills from incredible teachers. Over three classes, through exclusive video content and written instruction, Jeff Staple, the founder of Staple Design, will cover three key topics:
– Refining your Brand Name and Brand Slogan
– The Philosophical, Technical, and Legal considerations to Logo Creation
– Crafting your debut collection – telling a story through product
I first learnt of these classes via jeffstaple’s instagrama couple weeks ago. Sometimes it’s not the picture that I am constantly liking on these social platforms, but the captions that accompany them. Here is an excerpt from that caption, which is also what really drew my interest:
“It’s a little known fact that I’m a two-time college dropout. I left NYU and Parsons School of Design early to take a stab at starting @staplepigeon & @reedspace. Instead of getting my Bachelors or MBA, I decided to take the 15 year PHD program from the School of Hard Knocks.
The irony? Since then, I’ve either taught or lectured classes at NYU, Parsons, FIT, Pratt, and even the Columbia University Executive MBA Program. The problem with teaching at schools is that I’m only able to speak to the 30 students in the room. Even if I speak at a conference, the room can still only hold so many people.
This is where the good ppl @Skillshare comes in. I’m now going to teach a class and the entire world can join in!!!
This two-minute video has completely sold me, and I have in fact enrolled!
“This class is perfect for aspiring entrepreneurs in the fashion industry, both those who want to create a brand and those who already have a company in its early phases, and anyone interested in learning what it takes to build a brand from the ground up like we have done with Staple Design.”
Although I personally don’t have a fashion brand under my belt (nor do I really want to head down that path), the reason for my enrolment is mainly due to the latter of this course; the fact that I am still in the beginning stages of The 5 to 9 Life and the interest of wanting to learn how to build the brand up.
In saying that, I probably won’t be submitting a project because all I’ll really have is an awesomely-designed logo. Ha.
I’m always looking for new opportunities to learn though, and I highly recommend you do the same. I’ve had the pleasure of hearing jeffstaple speak before in Melbourne and he really does know how to draw in the attention of every single individual in the room.
For this rare opportunity, be sure to sign up for the course via Skillshare here, which begins on Monday, July 22 (US time).
Rest assured for those concerned about the time difference though. The class is self-paced so even if you miss out on the live sessions, you can learn from where-ever you are in the world at a time that suits you. There’s really no excuse now.
