Super cut arms, legs resembling a race horse, abs you can grate cheese on and hair of a Victoria’s Secret Angel. It’s the preconception of female athletes that has been made infamous due to the likes of Lingerie Football (officially, Legends Football League) and WWE Divas. When I train, I’ll be honest: I look like a pig on a spit. But frankly, I’m doing it because it makes me feel good, I get results and it means I can have another piece of cake.
That’s what I love about Nike. They have this profound understanding that to “Find Your Greatness“, we can do so, on our own terms.
Nike Mission: To bring inspiration and innovation to every athlete* in the world.
*If you have a body, you are an athlete.
The event will take place on a chilly Autumn evening in Centennial Park on Saturday 4 May at 7pm. There are 3 pace groups for the 10kms run:
• Tigress – In it to finish it (That’s me!)
• Lioness – In it for a personal best
• Cheetah – In it to win it
To sign up, you’ll need a Nike+ account. If you haven’t already done so, do it now because once you’ve signed up, you can access training plans, team up with your mates, share your progress on Facebook and sync your other Nike+ accounts like Nike+ Running or Nike+ Fuel.
And they haven’t stopped prepping you there. Nike Australia has launched its first running pop-up space the Nike Running Den, “an innovative and inspirational hub in the heart of Sydney, tailor-made for runners taking park in the Nike She Runs 10k race.”
The launch last Thursday was refreshing and intense, but mostly exciting. Hosted by Juliana Nguyen, Nike Marketing Director for Australia, the evening kicked off with an NTC (Nike Training Club) session with Jackie and we were supported by the Nike ambassadors Kelly Hetherington and Rhiannon Fish. Afterwards, we had a gait analysis with Nike Ekin’s (Product & Tech reps known for their love of the swoosh) which was followed by a 3km run to the Running Den.
“A Nike Concierge will host visitors through the space which features: a personalised gait analysis designed to select ideal footwear; bra bar fitting for optimal comfort & support; and tailored interaction with key products, including the Flyknit Lunar One+ and Nike FREE 5.0.
Runners will also be able to connect via the Nike+ App at the Nike+ Activation Zone; shop the limited edition She Runs 10K merchandise; and connect and train with other like-minded women via Nike+ Training Club.”
Key Tips from the Ambassadors!
Rhiannon’s tip for the event: “I’m going to motivate myself by running solely on my own – and hopefully finish it!”
Kelly’s tip for the event: “Grab your friends and keep each other going by sticking together.”
