H∆SHTAG$ Episode Three - Don’t Call It #CloudRap

Episode Three of H∆SHTAG$ turns its attention to the 808 drums and Enya loving, Internet-born micro-culture referred to as “Cloud Rap”.

Travelling to Oakland, Miami, and New York, this episode sees interviews with featured artists including Main Attrakionz, Flatbush Zombies, SpaceGhostPurrp, Robb Banks and London’s Piff Gang.

It’s an in-depth look into the latest trends in hip-hop, particularly the sub-genres of ‘trill-wave’, ‘cloud rap’, and ‘swag rap’. And even if you’re like me and have never heard of any one of these artists, it’s still pretty interesting to see how much hip hop has changed because of the internet.

“Describing the online rap world right now is tough. It’s tough to put it in a box. The line is very blurred. The internet is a big part of getting rid of those lines, and letting hip-hop be hip-hop.” – Femi Obasaju (Okayplayer)
