Marshall Davis Jones: Touchscreen

Poet Marshall Soulful Jones pinned this piece titled ‘Touchscreen’ which highlights how out of touch people are becoming with real human interaction due to the advancements in technology and the over use of social media platforms. Admit it, you're a victim of it too. Watch Jones' performance. It's great food for thought!

Marshall Davis Jones - Touchscreen

I’ve always been a fan of words. Clearly, seeing that I write everyday. But in this case, I’m referring to the spoken word. Poetry. I’ve been a fan since my early high-school days. So when I discovered Def Jam Poetry a few years ago, I couldn’t get enough of the honest, witty and heartfelt messages spoken out loud.

I was reminded of those particular performances yesterday when my cousin posted a video to a mutual friend’s (Facebook) wall and it immediately caught my attention. I hit up the link and was very impressed by the powerful performance of this young man.

The words/lyrics spoken in this particular verse really caught my attention and whether you want to admit it or not, it pretty much depicts today’s technology-driven generation, speaking the truth with four simple lines:

“From the gardens of Eden to the branches of Macintosh,
Apple-picking has always come at a great cost.
iPad, iMac, iPhone, iChat
I can do all of these things without making eye contact.”

Although this is an old performance, the content is still fresh and relatable, and definitely worth sharing! Enjoy.
