This next blog post is for you.
An old friend of mine who is also a very talented graffiti artist is launching his first book featuring works from the past decade! That’s 2002-2012 for those of you playing at home.
If you’re from Melbourne, you should have heard of him already or seen his work in the streets and laneways. And if you haven’t? Well, here’s your chance.
The very talented individual and all-round happy guy is having a little party to celebrate his book launch at No Vacancy Gallery this Friday night.
“Drewfunk & No Vacancy Gallery QV are proud to present the launch of Oriental Funk, the debut self publication by Drewfunk.
Oriental Funk follows the creative evolution of Drewfunk and his work over a ten year period from 2002 – 2012, documenting his work from the streets to the studio and everything in between.
Join us on Friday 18 January from 6pm – 9pm for the official book launch and signing, as well as an exhibition of new and old works.”
I met Drewfunk randomly a few years ago at a random swap meet in Melbourne, and a year or so after that, at one of his gallery showings in Sydney, I found myself going home with one of his creations. Yes, it was an impulse buy, but at the time, that particular artwork, ‘Ugly Butterfly’, immediately caught my attention, and I found myself going back to look at it again and again throughout the night. It’s still still one of my favourite art pieces to date. 🙂
So please go out and support this super nice and super talented artist. Maybe you’ll find yourself leaving with one of his artworks, and if not, grab his book, get it signed, and then flip through the pages of immense talent hiding within. While you’re at it, grab me one too! 😉
