It’s time for a serious post. With all the shit that went down in Newtown last week in the States, it’s about time Americans woke the fuck up. Excuse my French. It took the death of 20 innocent children for the President and the rest of America to sit up and finally take a stand? Or so they say…
The Connecticut school shooting that left 20 children and six adults dead, the entire US nation, and I’m pretty sure, the rest of the world too. Waking up to a news story like this last weekend was absolutely heartbreaking. And the outpour of emotions and anger continued in the office when I arrived to work the next day too. Absolutely sickening and tragic, to say the least.
After all those other shootings that has happened this year alone, it was this particular incident that made everyone wake up. I’m not even from America and I think that action should be taken.
A celebrity-studded public service announcement was released by the Demand a Plan campaign this week, with stars like Jamie Foxx, Jessica Alba, Beyoncé, Chris Rock, Conan O’Brien, Olivia Munn, and more urging viewers to petition President Obama and Congress to form a plan to end gun violence.
I really don’t see these A-Listers being able to “control” this raging inferno, but I guess we’ll see, huh? Many celebrities believe they have the power to make a change and contribute to doing good in this world, and sometimes they do. BUT have you seen/read/heard about the crazy gun laws in the States? It’s ridiculous! Seems like most people, let alone celebrities, won’t be able to change these laws. Fuck.
I really don’t know why I’m posting this video anymore. I guess, it’s more because of the organisation that organised the video to take place: Demand A Plan. Their name says it all really, doesn’t it?
“Demand a Plan is a campaign of Mayors Against Illegal Guns — a national, bipartisan coalition of mayors working to make America’s communities safer by keeping illegal guns out of dangerous hands.
“Protecting the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding Americans goes hand-in-hand with keeping guns out of the hands of criminals, drug abusers, the seriously mentally ill and other dangerous people. Mayors Against Illegal Guns advocates for common-sense measures that will close deadly gaps in our gun laws and make sure law enforcement agencies have the tools they need to detect and deter gun trafficking.”
Heck, this video of kids speaking out and showing their concerns might do a better job of getting what we need done.
But whether it be celebrities or teenagers, this is where actions NEED to speak louder than words.
*Thoughts and prayers to the families and community of Newtown, CT.
