I can’t believe I was so slow in posting this up! I apologise. I was trawling through my usual blogs today and was in search of some new music. This isn’t exactly new but upon my first listen, I found myself admiring Natalie Portman and Johnny Depp much more than actually listening to Paul McCartney’s vocals and songwriting.
The second (and third) time I listened to ‘My Valentine’, I minimised the video and listened to the vocals on its own in the background through my earphones with no other distractions. The result? It made me fall in love with the song. So simple, yet so beautiful. He definitely still has it after all these years.
The video below is one of three that McCartney released for this specific song: one of Portman alone, one of Depp alone, and the one that I have chosen to show – the two of them together. Based on an idea from his fashion-designer daughter Stella, all three videos were directed by Sir Paul McCartney himself.
I also applaud McCartney’s visual interpretations of ‘My Valentine’ featuring both Portman and Depp each translating the lyrics of the song into sign language – each giving distinctly different performances, making both videos compelling viewing.
What if it rained?
We didn’t care
She said that someday soon
The sun was gonna shine
And she was right
This love of mine,
As days and nights
would pass me by
I tell myself that I was waiting for a sign
Then she appeared,
A love so fine,
