Like A Version: Matt Corby

Former Australian Idol finalist turned indie rock artist Matt Corby headed into the triple j studios last Friday for a very special "Live at the Wireless". Check out some powerful performances of his hit single 'Brother' and a cover of a track by The Black Keys.

This past Friday, Aussie’s own Matt Corby headed to the triple j studios for the “the first Australian Like A Version of 2012” and sang two tracks, live and acoustic. There’s nothing else I can say except you have to check out these performances of Corby’s hit ‘Brother’ and a cover of The Black Keys’ ‘Lonely Boy’. Wow.

It’s kind of strange to think that we first met Matt Corby at the young age of 16 when he decided to audition for Australian Idol. Granted, he did make it to the finals but I’m glad he wasn’t the overall winner, because he probably would have been churning out the typical sappy, pop sounding songs that he did not write himself.

He would have been (somewhat) stuck in a box and not have been able to realise what he could have done or what his full potential was.

‘Brother’ was one of my favourite tracks of 2011 and truly shows that he has matured as an artist, songwriter and person. Watch and listen to this fantastic rendition of the track, and an even better cover of The Black Keys’ “new smash hit”. Corby will be playing sold-out shows across the country next month and I have a ticket to see him live. I can’t wait!
